take a little trip with me
I took a long trip west this summer, escaping Toronto's relentless July heatwave. I spent time on Vancouver Island, in Seattle, and several weeks in California. I traveled from the ocean coast eastward, through the golden central valley, and up into the Sonora Mountains, in the Sierra Nevada at the state's eastern edge. We were high up there, nearly a mile above sea level, close to the bright stars we slept under. Coming back to the coast I drove solo to Big Sur, a pilgrimage to the landscape of my life's beginning. This place is imprinted deep into my soul. The smells and sounds I cannot share with you, I am afraid. I have only images and words. Here are some photographs, and a more complete set here.
